By Commercial Janitorial Service Terminology
The following will apply as defined to all cleaning functions in the janitorial service industry. It’s intended to help clients compare janitorial service companies.
Dusting: A properly dusted area is free of all dirt, dust, streaks, and cobwebs. Low dusting-six feet or less, from floor, high dusting-above six feet.
Sweeping: A properly swept floor is free of all dirt, grit, lint, and debris, except embedded dirt and grit.
Damp Mopping: A satisfactorily damp mopped floor is without dirt, dust, marks, film, streaks, debris or standing water.
Dust Mopping:
Removal of all dry litter, dust, trash, etc., from a floor surface, using a chemically treated dust cloth, mop or equivalent.
Stripping and Refinishing:
Stripping should occur when all old finish has been removed down to the base floor material.
Spray Buff: Lightly spotting a floor with the appropriate chemical and machine buffing to maintain a uniformly bright appearance on frequencies indicated in specifications.
Carpet Spotting: Carpet spots/stains are removed by blotting with a towel, using a brush with plain water
Disinfecting: Depending on the surface type an appropriate method will be used along with a disinfecting solution. For glass, metal, wood surfaces it is recommended to spray and wipe off the disinfecting solution as instructed by the manufacturer. For floors it would be to sweep or vacuum then to damp mop using a disinfectant.
Steam Carpet Cleaning: to spray the carpeting area with cleaner solution then use a hot water extractor go over all carpet. Stains may need to be spotted clean.
Pro Tip: To clean carpets on your own, rent an extractor at the closest hardware store, add vinegar and cloth softener to get awesome results.
Vacuuming:
To use a floor or back vacuum to service carpet or hard floors to remove all dust and/or debris.
